Reasoning-based Dialogue Systems

Lecturer:
Topic:
Language & Computation
Level:
Introductory
Abstract:

This 1-week course is intended as an introduction to dialogue systems, and more in general to processing natural language (spoken) dialog, with a particular focus in systems for specialized domains or domains for which annotated corpora (key for data-driven sys- tems) may be scarce, and where reasoning techniques can prove useful. Dialog systems have become widespread in recent years, and enjoy a wide range of applications, from personal assistant software for smartphones (Siri, Maluuba), to chatterbots and voice control systems for cars. The course targets BSc-level students in linguistics and computational linguistics students with prior exposure to formal semantics and pragmatics.
